My Political Ideology

Social Justice

Every society has socially backward sections of people such as religious minorities, linguistic minorities and sexual minorities. India has an additional category called caste oppressed people. They are often subject to ostracization, attacks, rapes and murders. It is everyone’s responsibility to include every section of society in a country’s progress. Most of the civil unrest and wars arise due to the non-inclusive nature of societies. To resolve this, India must expand its social justice policies to private/ corporate sector too. Since reservation would amount to forceful interference in businesses, government can set minimum criteria (akin to reservation numbers in the state) for equal opportunities employment. The companies that do not follow the system can be taxed heavily and can name the tax as social justice tax. This way the corporate would compete to prove they are socially inclusive and also save on taxes.

Economic equality

Though Karl Marx’s socialism appears great in books, Indian experience has shown that globalization and liberalization of our economy can boost the government revenue and it, in turn, can utilize its funds for the upliftment of economically disadvantaged people. Social sector reforms such as Right to jobs (NREGA), Right to education, Right to food along with state-level poverty elimination schemes were all possible because we globalised our economy. At the same time, corporates must be encouraged to spend its profits on the social and economic welfare of the neighbouring villages. Nandan Nilakeni’s compassionate capitalism is the right term for this.

Human rights & Law

A country must not tolerate any kind of Human rights violations such as caste atrocities, domestic violence, rapes (even marital rape), war crimes and death and torture as punishments. I believe laws are just written guidelines through which a country expresses what is right and wrong in society. It hardly helps reduce crime. Every society aims to be lawless societies where people themselves understand what acceptable norm in the society is and follow them.

Terrorism

Prevention is better than cure. Most of the so-called wars against terrorism have seen civilian victims outnumbering terrorists. Therefore focus should be shifted on eliminating the causes of terrorism.

Democracy

Though decision making is slower in a democracy, it is mostly safe and widely accepted by the people. There are a lot of arguments and decisions are usually thoughtful and inclusive. One must exercise great caution in terms of democracy. Since democracy is a rule by the majority, It is obvious that the government will never be against them. So, the morale of a democratic country shall be judged on how it treats its minorities and the down-trodden.
